USANA Health Sciences Stock Upgraded

Nutritional and personal care products developer USANA Health Sciences (USNA - Cramer's Take - Stockpickr - Rating) has been upgraded to a buy from a hold. Its revenue increased by 16.9% in the third quarter compared with the same period last year. Earnings improved to 70 cents a share from 55 cents per share over the same timeframe.

The company's return on equity improved to 184.53% in the third quarter compared with 78.97%, a signal of significant strength within the corporation. This return on equity greatly exceeds that of both the industry average and the S&P 500. USANA Health had been rated a hold since August 2007.

An Antioxidant

An Antioxidant is a molecule capable of slowing or preventing the oxidation of other molecules. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that transfers electrons from a substance to an oxidizing agent. Oxidation reactions can produce free radicals, which start chain reactions that damage cells. Antioxidants terminate these chain reactions by removing free radical intermediates, and inhibit other oxidation reactions by being oxidized themselves. As a result, antioxidants are often reducing agents such as thiols or polyphenols.

Although oxidation reactions are crucial for life, they can also be damaging; hence, plants and animals maintain complex systems of multiple types of antioxidants, such as glutathione, vitamin C, and vitamin E as well as enzymes such as catalase, superoxide dismutase and various peroxidases. Low levels of antioxidants, or inhibition of the antioxidant enzymes, causes oxidative stress and may damage or kill cells.

As oxidative stress has been associated with the pathogenesis of many human diseases, the use of antioxidants in pharmacology is intensively studied, particularly as treatments for stroke and neurodegenerative diseases. However, it is unknown whether oxidative stress is the cause or the consequence of such diseases. Antioxidants are also widely used as ingredients in dietary supplements in the hope of maintaining health and preventing diseases such as cancer and coronary heart disease. Although some studies have suggested antioxidant supplements have health benefits, other large clinical trials did not detect any benefit for the formulations tested, and excess supplementation may occasionally be harmful. In addition to these uses in medicine, antioxidants have many industrial uses, such as preservatives in food and cosmetics and preventing the degradation of rubber and gasoline.

Compensation Plan: Usana has a binary compensation plan, which is relatively new, having been introduced to MLM less than 10 years ago. However, it has been proven to generate a very lucrative income for those who choose to work the plan and work it wisely. One of the selling points of this type of plan is that it promotes help from upline distributors through "spillover" since distributors are limited to the number of first level distributors they can sponsor, and those who are sponsored after that are placed below those people creating a spillover. It also allows the people above you to re-enter the matrix below you. The exciting thing about that is that someone above you who is very successful can wind up below you, helping to build your organization and perhaps even counter an extremely imbalanced leg or "runaway leg".

However, don't expect a "heavyhitter" to end up under you as it may never happen due to the fact that a heavyhitter could have many, many legs that he or she can fall under. Another selling point is that you need not sponsor a large number of people since only 2 (one on each side) is required to qualify for commissions and potentially build a "business center". Of course, if you have an imbalanced leg, which is likely to happen, you'll want to continue to sponsor to help counter it and to continue to grow your business. A major drawback to a binary is that it tends to attract many people who expect a large income with very little work due to promises of spillover that may never come. Hence, many people join expecting an organization to be built for them and when it doesn't happen, they quit. Usana's binary is a very lucrative one, however, when talking to network marketers, you will find that many will either love the plan or hate it with a passion. However, if you choose to go to work and not have any expectations of overnight wealth through spillover and having others build your business for you, you can build a very lucrative business that can grow beyond your expectations.

Advantages: Strong management, strong research and development, manufactures its own products, international opportunity, high quality products, strong financials.

Disadvantages: The binary compensation can be a negative for a lot of people, especially to those who are "inner-circle" network marketers who may be "dead-set" against binaries . However, new MLMers and those who have been exposed to other types of compensation plans, such as breakaways, may see the USANA comp plan as a fresh and exciting new opportunity. Beware, though, of "spillover" and uplines "building your organization for you" promises, as they may never materialize. Joining a strong group and positioning yourself directly under or near a strong business builder can help.

Comments: This is one of the strongest companies we've seen so far when it comes to online support, product development, management, financial strength, and international opportunity. This is especially true given the fact that most people have not yet heard of USANA, making it still a groundfloor opportunity.

Wait till the second conversation to bring up your desire to seek them for your business, or who they might know. This is only professional, and you are giving the relationship time to solidify and then mature into a real possible friendship.

INFERNO Secret: If you jump the gun too quick in MLM Cold Market recruiting, you will end up shooting yourself in the foot. Here are the "5 HOT Phrases for Cold market MLM Prospecting" These are mainly for people that you will meet in the business community when Net-Working your business, which you should be doing all the time!

1) "I am a professional in the community like you."

1) "I am a professional in the Community." This states an important fact: You are one of them. 2) "I am introducing myself." This sets up an important paradigm. You are taking the initiative to introduce and meet people in the community, and you are a take charge type of person. And it shows you really want to meet folks, as well it shows Leadership.
3) "I love networking with other professionals." This states one thing: You value other professionals as a resource. And you also show that you appreciate the fact that networking does work in the business world And also that as a resource, a professional has value to you and your Network Marketing business, and vice versa.
4) "Maybe there is a way we could help each other." This establishes that you are willing to Increase and Improve your prospects business and life. And also you do care about helping people, plus you are showing Potential value right upfront.
5) "Would you be open for coffee sometime?" This is the proactive part of it, and it simply gives them a chance to engage the budding relationship,or not. Most professionals do have an interest in increasing their business, so you will get some interest, and some time with many of them. But if they say they are not interested? Be a professional, and thank them for their time and wish them well.

And see if you can get a card for a thank you note to send them. "May I at least have a card in case I run across someone who would want your services?" Understand that you as a network marketer should be out weekly meeting folks who may need your products and looking for you. But most don't do that as they stay tied to one or two ways to prospect.

Vitamin D levels inadequate in half of women treated

Vitamin D levels inadequate in half of women treated with osteoporosis drugs despite efforts to increase knowledge and emphasis on osteoporosis prevention and treatment, research indicates that many women treated for osteoporosis have low levels of vitamin D, a nutrient necessary for adequate bone mineralization. A recent study involved 1,536 postmenopausal women from 61 study sites who had been taking medications for the treatment of osteoporosis for a minimum of three months.

Participants were allowed to have used vitamin D supplements as long as the dosage had remained consistent. Overall, 52 percent of the women had vitamin D levels considered inadequate. Sixty-three percent of women who reported a supplemental intake of 400 IU's or less had inadequate vitamin D levels compared to 45 percent of those whose intake was 400 IU's or greater.

Lower levels were also associated with the lack of physician counseling regarding the importance of vitamin D in bone health. The results of this study emphasize the need for greater education of the public and physicians regarding the significance of vitamin D status in the care of postmenopausal women with osteoporosis.

(Vegetarian, Vegan, Wheat-Free, Nut-Free)
For this fresh stir-fry, I've replaced meat with tempeh, used low sodium organic tamari (the tamari is wheat free), and used super foods such as broccoli, onions, garlic and ginger, to make for one tasty healthful meal!

Most of us know that eating beef increases our risk of heart disease, but the majority of us don't realize what a heavy toll meat eating takes on the environment. Raising animals for food requires enormous amounts of fuel, fertilizers, pesticides, water and land, and while I'm not advocating we all become vegan, an occasional vegan meal is good for you and the planet. There are many wonderful plant-based protein sources, tempeh being my favorite of all. So this month, try eating green, and give up or cut back on animal products. 8 oz. package tempeh, cut into 1/2 inch cubes (try Lightlife Organic Tempeh with Flax)3 cloves garlic, finely minced2 Tbsp. reduced sodium tamari (try San-J Organic Wheat Free Tamari)1 Tbsp. toasted sesame oil (try Spectrum)2 Tbsp. canola oil1 Tbsp. ginger, finely minced1 medium onion, diced2 large carrots, cut lengthwise into quarters, then cut crosswise into 1/2 inch pieces4 cups broccoli florets1 yellow (or red) bell pepper cut lengthwise into 1 centimeter wide strips 2 tsp. cornstarch1/4 cup water1 tsp. rice wine vinegar

Steam tempeh for 10 minutes. Combine with garlic, tamari, and sesame oil, cover and set aside to marinate 1 hour. Heat canola oil in a wok (or large sauté pan) over high heat until really hot (it will start to ripple). Add ginger and cook 1 minute, stirring. Add onions and carrots, and cook, stirring often, 4 minutes. Add tempeh and broccoli, and cook 3 minutes. Add bell pepper, cook 3 minutes more. Whisk cornstarch and water together until smooth and add to wok with rice wine vinegar. Cook about 1 minute more. Serve over brown rice. Serves 4.
