Laser can detect diseases in your breath
* Laser can detect diseases in your breath: Device identifies compounds that may indicate cancer, asthma, study shows *
A new laser technique could enable doctors to detect certain diseases, such as lung cancer or asthma, simply by analyzing a patient's breath.
A new study shows the laser system can identify trace levels of compounds that may be signs of disease in breath samples, and companies and investors have already expressed interest in developing the device for routine use in doctor's offices, said Jun Ye, a physicist at JILA, a joint institute of the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the University of Colorado at Boulder, who led the research.

* Zinc helps with diarrhea in children: study *
Treatment with zinc supplements can cut the severity and duration of acute or persistent diarrhea in children, a study shows. Further research, however, is needed to determine exactly how zinc produces its anti-diarrheal effects, the researchers note in the February issue of Pediatrics.
The findings stem from a pooled analysis of data from 22 relevant studies, including 16 that focused on the benefits of zinc in 15,231 children with acute diarrhea and six that looked at 2,968 children with persistent diarrhea.

Consistently overdoing it at the fast-food counter
* Fatty Fast Food, Idleness May Vex Liver: Weight, Waist Size, Fat, and Liver Enzymes Spike in Study of People Asked to Be Idle and Overeat Fattening Fast Food *
Consistently overdoing it at the fast-food counter and leading an idle life may not bode well for the liver, not to mention the waist size.
So say Swedish researchers who studied 18 lean, healthy students -- mainly medical students -- who agreed to supersize themselves for science's sake.
The students were asked to gain 5% to 15% of their body weight in a month by eating at least two daily meals at fast-food restaurants and adopting a sedentary lifestyle. Their fast-food diet featured hamburgers and other foods high in saturated animal fat. The researchers reimbursed the cost of those meals.

When they were introduced to USANA, Ruby Directors Jim & Dian Fawver were hopeful but skeptical. After 30 years in executive management with IBM, they didn't see how something could be so good. But they also didn't want to "slave away" at a job for the rest of their lives either. That skepticism turned into excitement as they realized how much fun they could have while improving their health, meeting new and wonderful people, and making an income commensurate or better than their prior careers. They are passionate about wanting others to achieve their joy.

Boost Your Business in Six Simple Steps ….
Boost Your Business in Six Simple Steps ….
Dave and Deanna Waters, Diamond Directors
thewatersedge@shaw.ca
There’s no way around it. To be successful in any business, you have to network, build relationships and discover what’s important to people. When you think of it as an adventure to see how you can make a difference in people’s lives, it can actually be fun to share Usana with others! Think of each encounter as a “practice” and look for ways you can learn something new.
No more Procrastination…..Put Goals into Action. Procrastination and fear of failure are the two biggest obstacles to success in any field. Usana is all about timing in people’s lives. What’s important to them right now? Immediate or longterm health challenges….tax write offs….extra income….helping others…. Just ask them.
Set your goals and stick to them. E.g. Talk to two new people a day; follow up on two people a day; have two presentations a week; sponsor 1- 2 people a month. Count on 10 no’s to get a yes. You can go back to the others later.
2. Not a Salesperson? No Problem! Find the Hot Button. How many people tell you that they can’t be an Associate because they can’t sell? The truth is, everybody sells something every day, especially themselves! When you are passionate about the Usana products, they will sell themselves. People will want what you have.
. Ask questions: Bill, what’s important about health to you? If money wasn’t a problem, what would you do with your life? If you had another $100 or $200 a week coming into your budget, would that make a difference? Are you able to write off a portion of your utilities and house expenses with a home-based business? You are simply a problem solver.
Annette and Victor Que, 4-Star Diamond Directors from BC, stress finding out what your prospect is interested in, then catering your presentation to that interest. “We focus on what the prospect is looking for, “Annette explains. “It is not what we want to sell. Instead it is what the prospect needs. Do your research before meeting with people, to anticipate what will be of most interest.
3. Let the Sales Tools Do the Talking Usana Home Office has provided a wide variety of tools to pass on to your contacts. Always have key ones on hand, complete with a sticker containing your name and data, plus a business card. Don’t expect your upline to supply the tools.
Ask people how they’d like to research the company: on the Internet, CD’s, DVD’s, literature and then give them what suits them best. Set a time and place to meet again. You can also tailor your PowerPoint Presentations specifically for a contact with the Presentation Pro system.
Use Technology to Leverage Your Time New technology like the Live Meetings and Presentation Pro requires us all to get out of our comfort zones….it’s a big step for us too! Usana is giving us every opportunity to leverage our time, being able to speak to many people at one time, while still giving the personal attention. Take advantage of the various conference calls and Live Meetings provided….and invite guests to participate as well.
Events. Events. Events. Annette Que says, “Usana events serve as a gateway for the prospect to have a sneak preview of who we are, what we do, and what Usana can offer them.”
We have never seen anyone be truly successful with Usana, who isn’t fully committed to the larger weekly and special functions. Your guests enjoy the energy of the group, and you are constantly learning and receiving motivation.
Quality, Not Quantity Your time is valuable! Remember that to get your business rolling, it just takes two! And then help those Associates find two good team members as quickly as possible. A few quality people who are self-motivated, will accomplish more than many who do little. Have new Associates consider participating in the Pacesetter and Platinum Pacesetter program.
Each person you sponsor requires time to interview, sponsor and train. Involve others on the team for this process. Ask questions to see if they fit your criteria. Give them a little homework and see if they do it. You can even ask them what attributes they think they will bring to the team. To make a real difference through Usana, we all need people committed to learning and who take action to spread the vision of this great company!

Three Key Words to Remember: Weigh, Count and Measure by Jim Rohn
Three Key Words to Remember: Weigh, Count and Measure by Jim Rohn
Three key words to remember: weigh, count and measure. Now why weigh, count and measure? To see what your results are from your activity, your attitude and your philosophy. If you find that the results are not to your liking there are only three places to look. Your philosophy needs to be fine-tuned; your attitude needs to be strengthened or your disciplines need extra skill. But that's it. Activity, attitude and philosophy create results.
Now on results I teach that life expects you to make measurable progress in reasonable time. But, you must be reasonable with time. You can't say to someone every five minutes, how are you doing now? That's too soon to ask for a count. Guy says, "I haven't left the building yet, give me a break!" Now you can't wait five years - that's too long. Too many things can go wrong waiting too long for a count to see how you're doing.
Here are some good time frames:
Number one - at the end of the day. You can't let more than a day go by without looking at some things and making progress. New Testament says - if you are angry, try to solve it before the sun goes down. Don't carry anger for another day. It may be too heavy to carry. If you try to carry it for a week, it may drop you to your knees. So some things you must get done in a day.
Here's the next one - a week. We ask for an accounting of the week so we can issue the pay. And whatever you've got coming that's what you get; when the week is over. Now in business there are two things to check in the course of the week. Your activity count and your productivity count. Because activity leads to productivity we need to count both to see how we're doing.
My mentor taught me that success is a numbers game and very early he started asking me my numbers. He asked, "How many books have you read in the last ninety days?" I said, "Zero"; he said, "Not a good number." He said, "How many classes have you attended in the last six months to improve your skills?" And I said, "Zero." He said, "Not a good number." Then he said, "In the last six years that you've been working, how much money have you saved and invested?" I said, "Zero" and he said, "Not a good number." Then here's what he said, "Mr. Rohn, if these numbers don't change your life won't change. But" he said, "If you'll start improving these numbers then perhaps you'll start to see everything change for you."
Success and results are a numbers game. John joins this little sales company. He's supposed to make 10 calls the first week just to get acquainted with the territory. So on Friday we call him in and say what? "How many calls?" He says, "Well." You say, "John, 'well' won't fit in the little box here. I need a number." Now he starts with a story. And you say, "John, the reason I made this little box so small is so a story won't fit. All I need is a number because if you give us the number we're so brilliant around here we could guess the story." It's the numbers that count. Making measurable progress in reasonable time.
Here's the best accounting. The accounting you make of yourself. Don't wait for the government to do it, don't wait for the company to do it. But you've got to add up some of your own numbers and ask, "Am I making the progress I want and will it take me where I want to go now and in the future?" You be the judge!
To Your Success,
Jim Rohn
